Words from Amanda:
“Traveling has always been a bit of a soft spot for me because when you travel you want to go explore and being stuck in a wheelchair stops you from doing that. The ability to travel with a Bowhead allows you to go where you want when you want. Its not just a mountain bike”
Wishing you amazing travels! Please feel free to tag @bowheadcorp on your next adventure so we can share and inspire others to take an adventure of their own.
Cheers,
Team Bowhead
Tips for Traveling with your Bowhead Mobility Device
Traveling with your Bowhead can be an exciting adventure, but it's important to follow specific guidelines to ensure a smooth journey. Here are the key points to remember:
# 1
No Batteries Allowed
The batteries used to operate your Bowhead exceed the watt-hour rating limit permitted under the regulations and are not allowed on a passenger aircraft (installed on the Bowhead or as carry-on). Plan to ship your batteries separately or find an alternative solution at your destination, such as renting from an adaptive program or local rider.
# 2
Fill Out Any Documents Requested by the Airline
Airlines often require specific documents for transporting mobility devices. Be proactive and check with your airline for any required forms or paperwork. Fill these out in advance to avoid any delays or issues at the airport.
# 3
Refer to your Bowhead as a Mobility Device. “E-Bikes” are often not permitted.
For smoother processing and to comply with airline regulations, always refer to your Bowhead as a "mobility device" instead of an "E-Bike." This distinction is important and can make a significant difference in how your bike is handled by the airline.
# 4
Call Ahead to Inform Them You're Coming
Contact the airline ahead of time to inform them that you will be traveling with a mobility device. This gives them the opportunity to make necessary preparations and provide any specific instructions or assistance you might need.
Additional Tips
-
Outlet Voltage: Be sure to check the voltage of the plugs at your destination. You may need to purchase an adapter for your bike charger.
-
Check Size and Weight Limits: Verify your airline's size and weight restrictions for mobility devices to ensure your Bowhead bike complies.
-
Proper Packaging: Remove any fragile components and accessories. Wrapping parts such as handlebar, cranks, sideguards, and derailleur is recommended. Please ensure the airline is able to easily handle your mobility device.
-
Label Your Bike: Clearly label your bike with your name, contact information, and destination address. This will help in case your bike gets misplaced.
-
Arrive Early: Arrive at the airport well in advance to allow extra time for the check-in and inspection process.
Conclusion
By following these guidelines, you can ensure that your Bowhead bike travels safely and efficiently with you. Safe travels and enjoy exploring at your destination!
